Since I started at VRT Safe Routes…
Recently, Lisa and I were walking down the street talking about whether or not my perspective on biking has changed since starting at VRT Safe Routes. In all honestly, I don’t really think it has. I feel very confident on a bike and maneuvering with and through traffic. What has changed is my perspective of being a pedestrian. I have become much more cautious. I have found myself waiting for a driver to completely stop before even considering to cross the street. I’ve seen too many pedestrians being disregarded and the recent number of people who have been hit or killed has given me pause to think. I love walking, this hasn’t stopped me, what it has done, is made me safer. I make eye contact, I don’t assume and though I LOVE wearing my black puffy coat, I have chosen to wear brighter clothing. These also happen to be the major topics we cover in schools. If you are ever interested in sitting in on one of our lessons, please reach out, we’d love to have you!
